Sinn Féin Election Candidate calls for Enterprise and Jobs Plan for the Milford Electoral Area
Sinn Féin local election candidate Maria Doherty has welcomed the announcement of Future Jobs Ireland report by the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation and has also congratulated Donegal Local Enterprise Office on a successful Enterprise Week however has highlighted the lack of any enterprise plan for Milford Local Electoral Area.
Ms Doherty has called on Údarás na Gaeltachta and the Local Enterprise Office to come together to develop and support indigenous business in the area, stating that there is a real need for the state agencies to collaborate with each other to deliver for the region.
Recent information has revealed that 41 units or 23% of all Údarás’s units in the county are currently vacant, half of these idle for 5 years or more. How many of these are in the Milford LEA?
Ms Doherty said, “These properties hold great potential for job creation in Gaeltacht areas and I am calling on the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation to facilitate better cooperation between the state agencies. While welcoming the new report this must be about creating real opportunities in rural Ireland and ensuring job creating and fostering indigenous industry. We still have the highest unemployment rate in the country so there must be a targeted approach with some joined up thinking so we can develop and deliver sustainable jobs in the Milford area.
Ms Doherty said , ”This area is in need of substantial investment and focus from state agencies to ensure local people and our young people have the opportunity to remain, live and work in their own communities”.
