Glackin welcomes inclusion of St Bernadette’s and Little Angels on winter gritting programme

Donegal Sinn Fein County Councillor, Adrian Glackin, has welcomed confirmation from the council that both St Bernadette's and Little Angels schools in Letterkenny have been added to the winter gritting programme for 2018/19.

The council confirmed the school routes’ inclusion at Monday’s workshop on the gritting programme.

Welcoming the news, Cllr Glackin said;

“This is an issue which I have been working on for quite some time, having brought it to the Letterkenny/Milford Municipal District Committee in January.

“I then brought it to the March plenary workshop for the council winter services, where the proposal received the support of all councillors.

“I am delighted that this has now been implemented and will come into effect in the winter of 2018/2019.

“It is important that the council recognises the needs of these two schools as they serve the whole region and do such fantastic work.

“From a health and safety point of view; for children with limited mobility and their parents/guardians, they will now be able to travel safely along the routes to both schools.

“I also feel it is imperative to recognise that for pupils with autisum – for whom routine is very important - missing school can be a traumatic experience. This will go some way to avoiding that this winter.

“I’d thank all councillors for their support on this issue."
